Gretton reveals its new library

Gretton Primary School has a new library at the heart of the school complete with soft seating, updated books and a new computerised loan system.

The previous library was in a small room and so the old ICT suite in the centre of the school has been transformed into a welcoming reading space. There are thousands of titles to choose from and the library will be open after school so that parents can browse with the students.

Principal Jane MacDonald said: ‘We received some money from the Brooke Weston Trust to buy new furniture and seating and we refurbished other pieces, including book storage boxes. We also did a sponsored read and raised £1,000 which we spent on new books.  The students love the transformation. Jacky Bell is responsible for the library and she has done an amazing job and she is helped by student librarians Tilly and Amelia.’

English Lead Sarah Sanders said: ‘The children like lots of non-fiction on things like space, dinosaurs and sport which are very topic related, and we are also keeping up to date with current fiction. The library is now a lovely environment and is really the heart of the school.’
