Students volunteer at National Finals of School Games

Brooke Weston Academy was just one of ten schools selected whose students volunteered at the National Finals of the School Games at Loughborough University. They submitted a detailed application explaining what skills they could offer and how they could bring core values from the event, such as self-belief, back into school.
A group of eight girls from Brooke Weston Academy were selected and volunteered across a variety of different sports including hockey, volleyball and wheelchair tennis.
The School Games, funded by Sport England and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust, is a government led programme designed to deliver competitive school sport to all young people. Its National Finals is an annual four day multi-sport event held at the univeristy which aims to reinforce the experience of the Olympic and Paralympic Games complete with an Opening Ceremony and an Athletes’ Village.
Brooke Weston Academy’s Year 11 girls were chosen based on their effort in PE lessons and commitment to extra-curricular activities along with their hours of dedication to different sporting events, such as the level 3 Sainsbury School Games where they officiated the volleyball.
PE teachers Miss Barber and Miss Marsh said, ‘The girls were an absolute credit to the school, they demonstrated outstanding leadership skills as well as many of the core values that the Youth Sport Trust promote such as self-belief, teamwork and determination.’ #Ambition for All
