TCA celebrates best ever GCSE results

Thomas Clarkson Academy is celebrating the best GCSE results the school has ever seen, with improved grades for the second year running and increases in the number of students achieving passes (4) and ‘strong’ passes (5) in English and maths.

The results demonstrate the Academy’s determination and drive to improve outcomes for young people in Wisbech. Nearly half of the cohort are staying on to further their studies at the Academy’s Sixth Form.

There have been improvements in maths, biology, chemistry and physics, along with strong performances in Modern Foreign Languages, English, engineering and dance.

The results also show that students have made significant progress during their time at TCA, especially in the Progress 8 measure which is a key Department for Education performance standard.

Associate Principal Richard Scott said: “We’re very pleased to see results improve for the second year running.

“What is important is that we’re seeing a steady, sustained improvement which is opening up more options for our students.

“Something we’re particularly proud of is the progress students have made from their initial starting point. We’re now seeing more and more young people making good progress which means students are making above average progress at TCA compared to other schools nationally.

“These results help to put students in good stead for their future studies and we’re delighted to be welcoming so many back in September for Sixth Form.

“I’d like to say congratulations to our students and thank our staff, who have worked tirelessly to secure the school’s best-ever results. We have also had lots of support from parents which builds a stronger school community.”

One of TCA's top performers was Gvidas Grikietis, who achieved four 9s, three 8s and two 7s and is planning to take A Levels in art, double maths and history.

He said: "I've done better than I expected. All the hard work has paid off."
