Trust Director leads revision sessions

Brooke Weston Trust’s Director of Science, Karen Hearne, has been leading revision sessions at Corby Business and Kettering Science Academies to help students prepare for their exams this summer.

Mrs Hearne has worked with colleagues from across our Trust secondary schools to develop a range of resources, both for targeted intervention and more general revision workshops.

At Corby Business Academy she is offering bespoke coaching to Year 12 and 13 chemists and, along with KSA staff, is running general revision sessions for students, including in the Easter holidays. After she said: 'The holiday revision session at KSA was good and around 60 students attended. They are focussed and in the right mind-set for the final push towards the exams. I am getting to know the students at CBA well as they are a relatively small group. However as other sessions are larger and open to everyone  it is a case of assessing what knowledge students have and tailoring the information.

‘Regardless of the school or setting, students generally have similar knowledge, concerns and questions, so these sessions are about revisiting concepts and giving advice on exam techniques.

This year will be the first time that science GCSE will be graded 9 – 1, so I and my colleagues have to use our professional judgement regarding topics and likely grade boundaries to ensure that our students are as well prepared and confident as possible.’
