The following courses are aimed at all staff who are looking to develop their knowledge of safeguarding, mental health and behaviour management skills.
Child Mental Health First Aid
Two day face to face course across four manageable sessions. Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues. Learning takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities. On completion, you will be a certified Youth Mental Health First Aider. This course costs £270 per delegate.
Adult Mental Health First Aid
This is a two day practical course which gives delegates a deeper understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect people’s wellbeing, including their own.
• Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues.
• Gives confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress.
• Enhances interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening and knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to appropriate support.
Research and evaluation shows that taking part in an MHFA England course boosts knowledge and confidence in dealing with mental health issues.
On completion, you will be a certified Adult Mental Health First Aider. This course costs £300 per delegate.
Effective Leadership and Completion of the EHA Process
The session will provide all front-line pastoral workers with the knowledge of how to complete an Early Help Assessment effectively and how to hold focused and effective Team Around the Family Meetings whilst looking at each stage of the required paperwork. The thresholds and pathways document will be included whilst looking at identifying unmet needs. This training will be relevant to colleagues in Northamptonshire schools only
Effective Behaviour Management
This session will give attendees the power to build confidence in their behaviour management and build on previous skills and knowledge. There will be a focus on practical advice for class teachers and support staff.
Introduction to Team Teach (for BWT colleagues only)
This 6-hour, one day course equips individuals with simple de-escalation strategies and basic positive handling techniques to deal with challenging behaviour and encourage positive relationships in their working environment
Safeguarding for New StafF
This course is essential for any staff who need to complete their safeguarding training. The session will enable you to recognise the signs of child abuse and what appropriate actions to take. Contextualised safeguarding and wider issues along with key statutory documents will also be discussed in the session. A certificate will be presented to all delegates who attend either date.
Supporting Pupils with ASD
An introduction to the challenges of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the classroom. Many children with autism can be supported to play a full role in mainstream schools. This session will improve your understanding of autism; review specific teaching methods, classroom strategies and techniques and help you to recognise and understand the traits and learning styles of students with ASD.
The focus of this session will be on protective behaviours, bereavement, feelings and emotions and managing anger. Practical strategies will be given throughout the session.
