Students Settle into The Wisbech Academy’s New Building

The Wisbech Academy officially opened its brand-new building on Thursday 4th September, when the new year 7 cohort began their secondary school journey.
Year 8 students returned on Friday 5th September.
The new building is temporary and will house the school while work begins on its permanent home. It includes 8 classrooms, each equipped with an interactive whiteboard, as well as a separate block with school offices, a community hall where fresh food is cooked on site and served to students, and an outside space where students can relax at break and lunch times.
Students will also continue to benefit from access to the nearby facilities at Thomas Clarkson Academy (also a member of Brooke Weston Trust). Students have access to the high-quality Sports facilities on the campus, as well as access to the Science laboratories at Thomas Clarkson Academy.
Meanwhile, construction will soon begin on the permanent school building, which is due to open in 2027. When full, The Wisbech Academy will have five year-groups, serving students from years 7 to 11. It will remain a small school, with a total of 600 students. Students may then join the Wisbech Campus Sixth Form, based on the site of Thomas Clarkson Academy and The Wisbech Academy, drawing on the expertise of teachers across both schools.
The temporary building has already helped to improve learning opportunities, with a bright and airy learning space, a music and drama space with keyboards, and access to laptops. It has helped to deepen the school’s identity as a warm and welcoming community, where students are nurtured and encouraged to flourish.
Year 7 student, Tilly-Mae, said: “All the teachers are kind and supportive. I am really happy with the new school building. Everything feels so new and modern, and the classrooms are really bright, which makes lessons feel exciting.”
Associate Principal, Dr Lawrence-Byron said: “It has been exciting to move into our new building. Students and visitors have commented on how large the classrooms are, and we are delighted to be able to offer such high-quality facilities to our students.”
The school will be welcoming visitors to see the new building at its open evening on Tuesday 23rd September, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. In addition, daytime tours are available for families who would like to see the school in action.
