BWA students visit New Designers exhibition

Year 9 textiles students from Brooke Weston Academy  visited the New Designers exhibition and the Design Museum on a recent trip to London.

The New Designers exhibition is a yearly event spanning two weeks. The first showcases the best graduate work in textiles, fashion, costume design and jewellery. The students had the opportunity to speak with university lecturers as well as the recent graduates exhibiting their work.

Teacher Selina Moore said: ‘Representatives from the fashion industry visit the exhibition to find new talent, but it’s also a fantastic resource for us to see what is new in terms of materials and techniques as well as portfolio inspiration. After the exhibition we went to the Design Museum to look at products that have been developed over time. It was interactive, allowing students to use an interactive wardrobe, a bit like the one seen in the film Clueless, learning material theory on an interactive quiz, as well as about the products and designers that will be on the GCSE specification. The students had a great day seeing where a textiles GCSE can lead to.’
