BWA Governor completes Land's End to John O'Groats cycle challenge

Year 1 students from Gretton Primary School are enjoying fun games and tennis coaching with a local trainer. Mr Jonathan Hoyle from Corby Tennis Centre puts the youngsters through their paces in hour-long sessions at the school. They are building on skills they learned in reception class and, after their current five-session programme, the students may take part in a mini tennis festival.
British sprint freestyler and Olympic swimmer Grant Turner inspired students at Gretton Primary School when he recently visited as part of their Ambition for All campaign.
Fitness instructor Natalie Hannah from Brooke Weston gym took on the 12k Uventure Mud Run complete with 48 challenging obstacles. Natalie, who also works as a science technician at the school, did the race with six team mates, including her husband. They completed the course in three hours 45 minutes and, despite the gruelling tasks, they were undefeated, mud-spattered and still smiling at the end when they were awarded T-shirts and commemorative medals.
Well done to Brooke Weston Academy’s Head of Geography, Mr Sean Houghton, who successfully completed the gruelling Vitruvian Triathlon at Rutland Water in just six hours.
The CEO of the Brooke Weston Trust and Associate Principal of Corby Business Academy were on the judging panel for Gretton’s Apprentice competition held as part of the school’s Ambition for All project. Students were tasked with devising products, packaging and marketing and they presented their ideas and finished products in front of the whole school.
Congratulation to students in Year 2 and 1 at Oakley Vale Primary School who took part in the Pacesetters football competition at Kettering Sports Arena and came first and fourth respectively.
Corby Business Academy is the latest BWT school to hear about our Ambition for All campaign and it is already putting exciting plans into place for when the focus falls on them as the Trust torchbearer in March.
Thomas Clarkson Academy is the latest BWT school to launch our Ambition for All campaign. Trust CEO Dr Andrew Campbell delivered a series of assemblies to staff and students from across all year groups, outlining the campaign’s aims and encouraging them to be ambitious, both personally and as a school community.
The hard work of hundreds of our secondary students from across the Trust has been recognised in a series of award ceremonies. Brooke Weston, Corby Business Academy and Corby Technical School have staged events where students received awards in individual subject as well as year group categories.
Our Ambition for All campaign has been launched at Compass Primary Academy when Principal Jo Fallowell told students that school will be the Trust’s ‘torchbearer’ for the next month.
Congratulations to Oakley Vale’s Principal, Miss Emma Goodwin, who successfully completed the Milton Keynes half marathon in two hours 15 minutes and raised more than £170 in aid of the NSPCC.
