The school has received a glowing report, with Ofsted inspectors recognising excellence across the board: Peckover Primary was judged ‘Good’ in four key areas, and achieved an ‘Outstanding’ rating for its Early Years provision.

Located in Wisbech, Lincolnshire, Peckover Primary School serves 453 pupils from Early Years through to Year 6. The newly published Ofsted report highlights a range of strengths across the school, with inspectors noting that “Pupils thrive in this happy, welcoming school” and that they “feel safe” in a nurturing and inclusive environment. 

Central to the school’s success is its strong emphasis on its ‘PROUD’ values, which inspectors observed are “at the heart of daily life” and are reflected in the positive culture throughout the school community.

Reading is a cornerstone of the curriculum at Peckover Primary School and is recognised as a key skill for life and provides a rich canon of literature to its pupils. The report confirms that “Reading is taught well. Pupils become fluent and confident readers,” acknowledging the school's dedication to literacy, developing a lifelong love of reading.

The school’s commitment to pastoral care was also highly commended. Inspectors praised the close relationships between staff and families, stating that “High-quality pastoral support helps pupils and families, with the school going above and beyond to remove barriers to attendance or engagement.” One parent described the school as “full of ambition, aspiration, creativity and expression,” reflecting the ethos and vision that underpin its work.

Beyond the classroom, Peckover Primary School offers a wealth of enrichment opportunities to broaden the curriculum. These include residential trips, theatre visits to London, and seaside experiences - activities which inspectors said “add value to pupils’ childhood.”

Staff were recognised for their tireless efforts to ensure every pupil succeeds, with praise for the support given to pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), and those who speak English as an additional language. The report noted that “Pupils with SEND and those who speak English as an additional language thrive.”

While the report identifies areas for continued development, specifically around the implementation of a new writing curriculum, the school is already making progress in this area. Leaders are focused on ensuring all pupils continue to build confidence and competence in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and handwriting.
