BWT schools and staff are finalists in education awards

Fantastic staff members from two BWT schools have made it through to the finals of the Northamptonshire Education Awards.

Corby Business Academy’s Attendance, Welfare and Safeguarding Officer Elaine Pickford is a finalist in the Unsung Hero category, CBA’s Outstanding Unit team is a finalist in the Special School or SEN Provision of the Year Award and Beanfield Primary School is a finalist in the Community award.

They will find out this evening (June 29th) at a prestigious awards ceremony at Wicksteed Park whether they are the winners.

Chief Executive of BWT Andrew Campbell said: “To make it through as finalists is a fantastic achievement for these staff and shows the excellent work that is going on across our schools in a broad variety of areas.”

CBA’s Mrs Pickford was nominated for her tireless efforts to look after students’ well-being and for the support she offers students and their families.

She said: “I was surprised and shocked to have been nominated in the first place so I’m elated to have got through to the final.”

THE CBA Unit team has just been ranked Outstanding by Northamptonshire County Council for the second time in a row and the team was nominated for this award for enabling all its students to meet or exceed their targets.

Unit Assistant Manager Caren Brown added: “We are thrilled to be in the final.

“This nomination is the result of a lot of hard work that our staff put into the Unit, not just this year but in the past few years.

“We always want to improve on what we do and do our very best for our students.”

Beanfield Primary School has been nominated for the community work it has been involved in this year. The school has created a walking bus and campaigned for better road safety near to the school. Pupils have also been involved in initiatives such as Clean for the Queen, in which they took part in a litter pick up.

Staff from the school alongside four students who have the best attendance will be attending this evening.

The awards have been organised by the Northants Telegraph, the Northampton Chronicle & Echo and the Daventry Express and the main sponsor is the University of Northampton.
