Brooke Weston Academy congratulated for EBacc 2016 results

Brooke Weston Academy  has been congratulated by the Minister of State for School Standards Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP for being among the top state-funded schools in England for the percentage of students entering and achieving core academic subjects in the English Baccalaureate 2016.

The English Baccalaureate (EBacc) is a school performance measure set by the government that allows people to see how many students obtain a grade C or above in the core academic subjects of English, mathematics, history or geography, the sciences and a language at Key Stage 4 in any government-funded school.

The performance measure was introduced to encourage schools in England to promote a range of more traditional academic subjects to their students.

The Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP said ‘I would like to congratulate Brooke Weston’s staff and students for the very high standard of entry and achievement in the English Baccalaureate in 2016. Your results show that you are amongst the top state-funded schools in England for the percentage of students entering and achieving these core academic subjects, which are vital for giving students the best start in life and ensuring they have the widest range of opportunities available to them.

‘Thank you for your work in continuing to drive towards high standards of educational achievement and congratulations again to you and your staff for your hard work and professionalism.’

Associate Principal Mr Peter Kirkbride said ‘This is a fantastic result for the academy and I am incredibly proud of the students and staff as these academic subjects have had to be achieved at the highest of grades. To gain recognition from the Minister of State for School Standards is very special and confirms that, not only have we got a curriculum that allows all of our students to study these core subjects, but that also our learning, culture and environment means they are achieving the best results.’
