CBA recruits latest student librarians
Corby Business Academy has recruited its latest cohort of 18 student librarians, a larger cohort than normal due to the huge interest from students.
The successful applicants were interviewed and will work on a rota system during breaks and after school and will learning a range of skills.
Librarian Amy McKay said: ‘Jasmine, who is a Year 9 student, is our student library manager and she oversees the new student librarians. We had so many amazing applications that we had to make the team bigger than it normally is.
‘The main part of the job is to run the desk as it is always very busy at break and lunchtimes. The students do all the issuing, recommending books and they do a training session per term, learning about other areas that they are interested in, such as displays, activities and shelving.
‘It will teach them organisational skills, responsibility and, as they all enjoy reading it will hopefully give them ownership of the library. That is the most important thing, we want them to feel it is their library and they also get the chance to meet new people and discuss books. It is a great way for them to discover and recommend new authors and promote a love of reading.’
