Testing out the latest drone technology at BWA

Students at Brooke Weston Academy are on top of the world with the latest drone technology introduced by the Design Technology department.

The two racing drones beam images to virtual reality headsets that give their operators a bird’s eye view of the surroundings. The ultra-responsive mini drones will allow students to film aerial images and will give an added dimension to their design work

Head of Design Technology, Jonathan Browne said: ‘We are linking up with a new organisation called Air Engineers, introducing the students to drone flying. We have bought two kits. One is a racing drone and the other is an internal racing drone. They introduce students to virtual reality so it seems like you are flying inside it. It is really high end robotics technology and we are going to race them around the school. You can put a Go Pro in the larger one and film a fly through. This is impressive interactive technology and I am sure the students will love them and find many applications for them.’

Mr Browne and Principal Pete Kirkbride are pictured having fun testing the new drones on their maiden flights!
