BWA congratulated by School Standards Minister

Brooke Weston Academy is in the top 9 per cent of state funded mainstream schools for its Progress 8 score and in the top 11 percent for its EBacc entry, based on 2018 figures.

The Minister of State for School Standards, the Rt Hon Nick Gibb, has written to the academy, congratulating it on its results and thanking Principal Pete Kirkbride and his staff.

The Progress 8 score is an indicator as to how students perform between the Years of 7 to 11 in key subjects. Brooke Weston’s figure of 0.61 is well above the national average and demonstrates that the school ‘adds value’ to its students, who make more than expected progress from their starting point.

Additionally as 75% of students have entered for EBacc qualifications (a suite of GCSE subjects including English, maths, science, humanities and a language) this puts the Academy in the top 11% of schools based on this measure.

The Rt Hon Nick Gibb wrote: ‘I was delighted to see your results. Thank you for your work in continuing the drive towards higher academic standards and congratulations again to you and your staff for your hard work and professionalism.’

Principal Pete Kirkbride said: ‘I am delighted that Brooke Weston Academy has performed so well on these vital measures and has been placed among the top ranked comparative schools in the country. Thanks to our staff and students whose drive, dedication and ambition for all mean that our results are recognised at Government and national level.’
