CTS showcases inclusion and careers excellence during ministerial visit
Corby Technical School (CTS) welcomed Georgia Gould, Minister for School Standards, on 4th December, accompanied by Lee Barron, local MP, who had also visited the previous week for UK Parliament Week.
The Minister was given a tour of the school, visiting classrooms and observing interventions that demonstrate how the school is meeting the diverse needs of its students. She spoke with a selection of students and met with staff from the school’s SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), Inclusion, and Careers teams, learning about the innovative strategies that underpin the school’s commitment to creating an inclusive environment where every learner feels supported and connected.
Students shared their experiences of work experience placements, involvement in enrichment activities, and how employability is embedded throughout the curriculum - a reflection of the school’s mission to ensure its students are “the most employable students in Corby.”
This ambition sits alongside the school’s wider vision of “Unique Learners, Unlimited Ambition,” which drives its inclusive approach and ensures that every child pursues their goals and passions with confidence and ambition.
Lee Barron, MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire, said: “It was great to welcome Georgia Gould, the Education Minister, to Corby to meet students and staff and see the inclusive provision offered at Corby Technical School for students with SEND.
“It was also good to share with her the innovative and successful approach CTS has towards employability, developed in partnership with businesses. Students from Year 7 to year 13 shared with us how they benefit from high-quality careers support embedded through the curriculum, work experience, and personal guidance.”
One of the Head students, Esosa said: “It was a great honour meeting with Georgia Gould and leading the student panel, where we were able to honestly share our experiences with careers and employment at CTS. It felt powerful knowing that our voices were being heard, and it gave me real hope that change can happen when students are included in the conversation.”
The other Head student, Ryan said: “The visit reaffirmed for me the care and effort the minister is putting into her work with education. It was a privilege to be able to share about my experiences from throughout my time at CTS.”
Principal Angela Reynolds said: “We are proud to share the work our staff and students do every day to create an inclusive, aspirational environment.”
Corby Technical School, which is part of Brooke Weston Trust, works closely with employers and community partners to ensure every student develops the knowledge, confidence, and skills to thrive beyond education. This visit reinforces the school’s commitment to SEND, inclusion, and employability, ensuring that every student has the tools and confidence to succeed.
