CTS's Careers Programme showcased through Green Careers Week

CTS's Careers Programme showcased through Green Careers Week
News / 18 Nov 2025

Corby Technical School (CTS) continues to strengthen its commitment to preparing students for the world of work through its comprehensive careers programme, which includes the Approved Partners Scheme, lunchtime careers pop-up shops, and themed events designed to broaden horizons and inspire ambition.

A recent example of this approach was the school’s celebration of National Green Careers Week (3rd – 8th November), which showcased sustainable career pathways and highlighted how future choices can positively impact the planet.

Throughout the week, students engaged in lunchtime pop-up sessions with the school’s Careers Officer, exploring what green careers involve and making personal pledges to live more sustainably. These conversations led to more than 60 students committing to small but meaningful changes in their daily lives, demonstrating how careers education can influence both aspirations and actions.

The programme also featured visits from employers within the school’s Approved Partners network. On Tuesday 4th November, CTS welcomed Elaine Kendall, Head of Sustainability at Corby-based Kori Construction, who hosted an interactive pop-up stall with sustainability-themed games, sparking conversations about greener practices in the construction industry. The following day, representatives from the Environment Agency delivered an innovative Minecraft challenge, immersing students in a virtual flood scenario and showing how environmental awareness and problem-solving skills intersect in real-world careers.

Tutor sessions complemented these activities with presentations on the breadth of green careers available, followed by team projects to design ideas for making the school greener. The winning form, 7CO, received a certificate from the Environment Agency, while other groups created posters outlining individual actions for a sustainable future.

These initiatives reflect CTS’s ethos of placing employability at the heart of education. Through the Approved Partners Scheme, students gain access to local and national businesses offering work experience, apprenticeships, and mentoring opportunities. This network not only supports employability but also connects students with sectors driving the future economy, including green industries.

Looking ahead, CTS is excited to host activities for UK Parliament week later in November. These will include a visit from local MP, Lee Baron, Youth Employment UK and People First Ltd and a range of activities. Also forthcoming is the annual Careers Fair in March - a whole-school event bringing together a wide range of employers and organisations. This will give students the chance to explore diverse career pathways, engage directly with professionals, and develop the skills needed for success in tomorrow’s workplace.

Principal Angela Reynolds commented, "Employability has always been central to our vision at Corby Technical School. Our mission is clear: to develop the most employable students in Corby. Initiatives like Green Careers Week, our Approved Partners Scheme, and the careers pop-up programme ensure that every student leaves us with the skills, experiences, and confidence to thrive in a rapidly changing world."

CTS, which is part of Brooke Weston Trust, values its partnerships with employers across the region, helping them connect with a motivated pool of future talent while empowering young people to thrive in their chosen careers.
